Derby Merch

Recently I have started working on some roller derby merchandise designs for Shove & Kisses.  Run by Marisa Saunders.  Whilst I have been helping out the bouts and selling a few stickers we both felt it was time for me to contribute in a larger way.  Therefore I am now happy to announce that soon there will be T-shirt's, greetings cards and stickers with my new art on!

All will be available in two weeks at various bouts and cons around the UK.

Button Men

Many years ago in my early teens I was introduced to a dice game called Button Men, created by Cheapass Games.  I became horribly addicted to playing it with my friends and family.  It is simple fast and fun.

It was the games from Cheapass Games that inspired me to create my own.  They are all for the most part short and easy to pick up and play games, as well as being cheap to purchase.

Well as the years went on and I still dipped out of button men from time to time, playing it online and later via the app on my iphone.  This year I also taught children how to play it in maths using D6's and some cutesy characters that I had quickly drawn and photocopied.

Having played a few games of it yesterday I figured it was time to pay respects to James Ernest of Cheapass Games and use some of my favourite artwork of late, to create some button men of my own for you to enjoy.

The cards below can be downloaded and printed, the same size as a business card, off of any standard printer and can be enjoyed for your own personal use.

Here are some basic fighters to learn the game.

Advanced Fighters

Twin Dice

Twin Dice appear as two numbers separated by a comma, and are played as two dice that add together. For example, a twin 8 is represented as (8,8) and treated as a single die. The two 8's are rolled as one, captured as one, and scored as one die worth 16 points. 

Shadow Dice (Marked in blue)

Shadow Attack: Use one of your shadow dice to capture one of your opponent's dice. The number showing on the die you capture must be greater than or equal to the number showing on your die, but within its range. For example, a shadow 10-sided die showing a 2 can capture a die showing any number from 2 to 10. Take the captured die out of play, then re-roll the capturing die. 

An X designated as a Shadow die is a Shadow Swing die. It is a Shadow die, and can be any size between 4 and 20 sides. 

Poison Dice (Marked in Green)

They are normal in all respects, except that they are worth negative points. If you keep a Poison Die of your own, subtract its full value from your score. If you capture a Poison Die from someone else, subtract half its value from your score.

StIgma

Everyone has inner demons, issues and personal hang-ups.  It is something that not only makes us different, but human.  Listen to those that could need a hand, get rid of the stigma and try and be proud of who you are.  It is time to accept our differences, not hide ourselves from the world.

MCM Day 1

Today I attended the MCM Expo in London.  It is bigger than ever and they have treated Artists Alley very well indeed.  With a huge number of indie artists on show there is so much to see. 

My stall Twin Sword Trading (featured below) was manned by myself and my fiancée and amazing PA Kayleigh Powis.

I spent a large portion of the day talking to various artists, writers and a great colourist that I shall feature more of tomorrow.  Below is a picture of my comic book heroes, Mark Pearce and James Stayte at their stall selling their amazing comics: Ronin Dogs and Big Jimmy as well as a large selection of prints.

The new Ronin Dogs is even better than the last three and really is worth picking up.

Next is a picture of Marisa Brook who was manning a stall with her husband Deakin Brook.  With a collection of shirts stickers, books and prints, they have a lot to show.

I spent time with many other happy people of whom I shall feature tomorrow after I get back from day two of the MCM.

It shall be bigger than ever this year, so it is well worth checking out if you haven't though about it already.  I shall be there all weekend, so come and say hello.

Happy New Year!

With a new year should come new things.  I take it upon myself regularly to go out of my comfort zone and try new styles of art.  I am happy with my work, but there is no harm in challenging yourself and pushing your limitations, everyone can improve.

I bought my best pal a manga art book and he bought a few too.  After lots of sketching and pages of ideas I thought it was time to do a full piece.

So here is a new picture in a new style, a happy combination of manga and my semi-photo-realistic digital impressionism.

MCM Comic Con: Summary!

As you'll probably be aware by now, I was at the MCM Comic Con on the 26th and 27th October. Today was a day of relaxation and recovery from what turned out to be a successful, but incredibly tiring con!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit my table, pick up a print, comic or art book, paid for a sketch or just stopped by for a chat. I appreciate each and every one of you for your kind complements and friendliness!

This con I took along some brand new prints, brand new business cards and my first ever roller banners-two of them! 

I was also joined by my sister Bex who was selling plenty of her own artwork on the second half of the table. I'm pleased to say that she did really well, especially considering this was her first con!

I forgot to take photos for the most part, but here were the few photos myself and my Fiancée took from the weekend. As always, a special mention goes out to the Con Crew, comprising of Jess Bradley-Bove, John Paul Bove, James Stayte, Mark Pearce, Marisa and Deakin Brook, and all the artists I regularly come round to talk to at near enough every con I exhibit at (you know who you are! :) ).
